Slip Casting
By Philomena Amalfitano
Something was over. I remember
night thawing at the doorway.
That’s when the soul first left
my skin, when it eavesdropped
from the cupboard.
Sunrise. Pools of green hanging
over houses. No voice
coiled in the river.
Even the glassy blooms
felt like harm. Just me
and my savage lung —
one plum leash.
Something was over,
I threw bones.
